HAYWOOD HEALTHCARE FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANTS

The Haywood Healthcare Foundation Board of Trustees voted at their October meeting to provide $307,000 in grants to 11 agencies for healthcare needs in Haywood County. The following agencies were awarded grants:

Haywood County Emergency Services to purchase four portable ventilators and five infusion pumps for their ambulances

Haywood County Health and Human Services Agency to offer Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for individuals identified through DHHS Post-Overdose Response Team, female inmates upon their release from Haywood County Detention Center and people on probation

Town of Waynesville Base Camp on the Go for continued support of the free mobile camp for children in Haywood County and to purchase an inflatable obstacle course

Mountain Projects – Haywood Public Transit to purchase two weather shelters for riders on the fixed bus routes in Haywood County

Haywood Regional Medical Center Nurse Navigator Program to purchase gas cards for patients during their cancer care

Blue Ridge Health to purchase an EKG Machine

Clyde Elementary School for the “Second Step” Program that teaches students important mental health coping skills early on in their life, such as emotional competence and self-regulation, empathy, emotional management and problem solving

Arc of Haywood County, Inc. for the “Steady the Ship on Obesity” Program that will provide lessons on healthy cooking, good choices and portion control

North Carolina Harm Reduction Coalition to support the Post-Overdose Outreach Program dedicated to the implementation of harm reduction interventions, treatment resources, housing options (permanent or emergency) and assistance in transportation to receive treatment or housing

Haywood Pathway Center to support two Peer Support Specialist dedicated in assisting prisoners, pre and post release with guidance in addressing issues of substance abuse, mental health difficulties and housing

Pisgah/Tuscola High First Fruits Ministry to purchase nutritional pre-packaged snacks to Pisgah and Tuscola High students
