Haywood Healthcare Foundation Awards $412,146 in Grants to Support Local Healthcare Initiatives
The Haywood Healthcare Foundation, a stand-alone 501 (c) (3) nonprofit foundation, is committed to improving healthcare for underserved individuals and families in Haywood County through educational programs, grants, scholarships and leadership opportunities.
The Haywood Healthcare Foundation Board of Trustees voted to award $412,146 in grants for fiscal year July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024 to fulfill its mission (as mentioned above) to the following agencies to help them meet the healthcare needs in Haywood County:
AdventHealth Infusion Center Haywood – provide liquid nutrition supplement (Ensure, Glucerna, Kate Farms) to cancer patients requiring nutritional support during infusion therapy which is not covered by insurance
Alzheimer’s Association NC Chapter Haywood – support “Healthy Brain, Healthy Body, Healthy YOU Program” is a 4-part series based on the Association Program Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body
Child Medical Collaborative, Inc. – provide support for a full-time Physician Assistant to provide complete care for victims of child abuse or neglect in Haywood County
Clothes to Kids of Haywood County – provide support for their “Bath Buddies” Program – a kit which includes bath soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrush, and for girls, feminine products
First United Methodist Church Friendship House of Waynesville – provide various services including food and transportation support to Haywood County’s disproportionately impacted communities
Haywood County Economic Development – provide funding for interim Health Insurance coverage to Haywood County residents who lost their jobs as a result of the mill closure, either directly or indirectly
Haywood Christian Ministry, Inc. – support their Food Distribution Program
Haywood County Health and Human Services – provide dental care to Haywood County indigent patients at a minimal cost
Haywood County Health and Human Services – support creation of a mental health awareness campaign
HRMC Care Coordination – provide needed services to indigent patients (oxygen and nebulizer setups and wheelchairs)
HRMC Nurse Navigator Program – to assist needy Haywood County cancer patients with transportation assistance so treatment can be provided in an efficient and timely manner
HRMC Nutrition Counseling – provide nutrition services to Haywood County cancer patients that do not have insurance coverage for nutrition services while undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment
HIGHTS – support the Restorative Youth Service Continuum, which provides services to youths involved with juvenile justice and social services
KARE, Inc. – provide mental health services to children and families who have been impacted by allegations of child abuse and/or serious neglect
Kiwanis Club of Waynesville – provide playground equipment specifically designed for children with special needs
Maggie Valley United Methodist Church – support their Shepherd’s Table Program and food pantry
Mountain Projects, Inc. – provide media outreach for the Certified Application Counselor Program, which provides free in-person assistance to Haywood County residents looking to enroll in the Affordable Care Act
Pigeon Community Multicultural Development Center – provide nutritious meals and snacks for their Summer Enrichment Program
Smoky Mountain Medical Society – provide continuing education to Haywood County medical providers with topics on chronic disease management
Southwestern Child Development Commission – provide support for the “Birth to Two” Program for low-income mothers in Haywood County
