The Haywood Health Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit foundation, is committed to improving healthcare for underserved individuals and families in Haywood County through educational programs, grants, scholarships and leadership opportunities.
The Haywood Health Foundation Board of Trustees awarded $448,545 in grants for fiscal year July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025 to fulfill its mission (as mentioned above) to the following agencies to help them meet the healthcare needs in Haywood County:
Child Medical Collaborative, Inc. – provide support for a Physician Assistant to provide complete care for victims of child abuse or neglect in Haywood County
Clothes to Kids of Haywood County – provide support for their “Bath Buddies” Program – a kit which includes bath soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrush, and for girls, feminine products
First United Methodist Church Friendship House of Waynesville – provide various services to support Haywood County’s disproportionately impacted communities
Haywood Christian Ministry – support their Food Distribution Program
Haywood County & Haywood County Recreation & Parks – provide support for a Bike Park for Haywood County residents including those with special needs. Parks and access to outdoors are essential for physical and mental health
Haywood County Health and Human Services Dental Program – provide dental care to Haywood County indigent patients at a minimal cost
Haywood County Health and Human Services Mental Health – support creation of a mental health awareness campaign in Haywood County, will focus on how, where and why to seek help
Haywood Pathways Center – provide support for the following:
Case Manager – offers person-centered goal planning, resource
referral, drug/alcohol screening, and additional support to help
residents overcome health issues and barriers to success,
includes effect of Adverse Childhood Experiences
Peer Support Specialists – provides support guidance and
advocacy to help residents cope with various issues inhibiting
physical and mental health
Resident Assistant – advocate and liaison between residents and
case management/administrative staff
Haywood Regional Medical Center Nurse Navigator – to assist Haywood County cancer patients with financial needs, transportation assistant so treatment can be provided in an efficient and timely manner
Haywood Regional Medical Center Education – provide nutrition services to Haywood County cancer patients that do not have insurance coverage for nutrition services while undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiation treatment
HIGHTS, Inc. – support the Restorative Youth Service Continuum, which provides services to youths involved with juvenile justice and social services
KARE, Inc. – provide mental health services to children and families who have been impacted by allegations of child abuse and/or serious neglect
Maggie Valley United Methodist Church – support their Shepherd’s Table Program and food pantry
Mountain Projects, Inc. – provide media outreach for the Certified Application Counselor Program, which provides free in-person assistance to Haywood County residents looking to enroll in the Affordable Care Act
North Carolina Cooperative Extension Haywood County Center – to improve the access of nutrition and food safety information and educate the community while meeting tangible needs
Pigeon Community Multicultural Development Center – support their Community Building Through Nutrition Program for Haywood County individuals and families, including underserved populations
Pisgah Legal Services – support their provision of free civil legal assistance and advocacy to low-income people in Haywood County
St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church – support their “Backpacks of Love Program” for the Canton community
