The Haywood Health Foundation Board of Trustees is very pleased to have awarded $430,958.00 in new grants for Fiscal Year 2025 – 2026 to fulfill its mission (detailed at the end of this article), by assisting those organizations in meeting the healthcare needs for Haywood County residents.

The grant recipient organizations are:

Camp Ability of WNC – provide supplies and other essential items required to conduct a summer camp for children with disabilities in Haywood County

Central United Methodist Church – partnering with the Canton Area Missionary to provide food and snack items to students at North Canton Elementary School

Haywood County Health & Human Services Agency
 provide critical dental care to indigent patients, and
 support a mental health awareness program

Nurse Navigator Program – provide gas cards to patients to indigent patients to insure they are able to be present for all required cancer treatments

First United Methodist Church Jounce High School Afterschool Program – provide education in nutrition and sustainable agricultural practices while leading students in the development of a community garden

Junaluska Community VFD – purchase a Zoll Cardiac Monitor to enhance their level of services to Advance Life Support capability

KARE, Inc. – provide mental health services to children and families who have been impacted by allegations of child abuse and/or serious neglect and to support the Community Safety Specialist position

Kiwanis Club of Waynesville – contribute to the improvement in safety and quality of their park playground through replacement of the 23 year old wooden tower play structure

Maggie Valley Fire & Rescue – purchase 2 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and a suction unit to be placed on their main response Fire Engine, and also a Medical Response QRV that will be vital in improving their response to emergency medical calls, providing prompt and efficient care when needed

Maggie Valley United Methodist Church – support their two food ministry programs serving hot dinners to 125 people on a weekly basis, and providing semi-monthly bags of groceries to financiallystruggling individuals throughout Haywood County

REACH of Haywood County – provide a Safe Date Program to middle school students throughout Haywood County, which includes snacks and educational items for the students

St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church – purchase food for the “Backpack of Love Program” for the Canton community school students

Haywood Christian Ministry, Inc. – purchase fresh, healthy, local food for distribution to Haywood County residents

Haywood Pathways Center – support the Case Manager, Peer Support Specialists and Resident Assistant to impact Haywood County citizens and address Social Determinants of Health relating to food insecurity, homelessness, mental health/substance abuse, and
social cohesion

HIGHTS Inc. – support the hiring of additional credential staff for the Restorative Youth Service Continuum, which will have a transformative impact on the health and well-being of vulnerable
youth and families in Haywood County by expanding access to timely, trauma-informed, and coordinated behavioral health services

Child Medical Collaborative, Inc. – provide child medical evaluations for abuse victims in Haywood County
